Texans News: Texans promote K Matt Ammendola and S Brandon Hill to active roster

The Houston Texans promoted two players from the practice squad. Kicker Matt Ammendola and safety Brandon Hill will be on the active roster ahead of their Week 14 match with the New York Jets, the team announced Saturday. Safety DeAndre Houston-Carson (illness) will not travel with the team to New Jersey but is still listed as questionable. Ammendola is expected to start as the Texans’ kicker this week, a role he’s held for the past four games while Ka’imi Fairbairn is on injured reserve. Ammendola has made 6-of-9 field goal attempts the past four weeks, including three in Week 13 in the win over the Denver Broncos. Ammendola has a history with his opponent this week as well. He made his NFL debut with the Jets in 2021 and was the team’s kicker from Weeks 1-11. Ammendola made 13-of-19 attempts during his time in New York. He was also the team’s emergency punter in Week 1. Hill, a 2023 seventh-round pick out of Pittsburgh, made his NFL debut in Week 11 but only played one defensive snap and six special teams snaps. He did not record a defensive statistic. Hill will likely serve as the backup free safety behind Jimmie Ward should Houston-Carson be officially ruled out. Houston-Carson played the past five weeks for the Texans, three of which as a starter. He began the 2023 season on the Texans’ practice squad but was released on Sept. 30. Houston-Carson joined the Baltimore Ravens practice squad next before he returned to Houston on Oct. 31. Email Sign up Like this article?
