NFC Playoff Picture: Seahawks dramatically change playoff fate

Image
The Seahawks are almost assured of a postseason berth if they win out. The Seattle Seahawks snapped their four-game losing streak with a dramatic 20-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Drew Lock engineered a 92-yard game-winning touchdown drive, capped off by an incredible catch by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Julian Love, who’s familiar with the Eagles after his time with the New York Giants[ clinched the victory with the awesome interception in the closing seconds. What does this all mean? It means the Seahawks’ playoff chances are very much alive. We saw several favorable results over the weekend, and now the Seahawks have finally helped themselves by winning again. Here’s the updated playoff picture: Division Leaders
1. San Francisco 49ers (11-3, clinched NFC West)
2. Dallas Cowboys (10-4, 4-1 NFCE, 7-3 NFC, clinched playoff berth)
3. Detroit Lions (10-4, 6-3 NFC)
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-7, win over NO) Wild Card
5. x-Philadelphia Eagles (10-4, 3-1 NFCE, clinched playoff berth)
6. Minnesota Vikings (7-7, win over GB, 6-3 NFC)
7. Los Angeles Rams* (7-7, sweep of SEA, 5-4 NFC) Not in Wild Card
8. Seattle Seahawks* (7-7, losses to LAR, 6-5 NFC)
9. New Orleans Saints* (7-7, loss to TB, 4-5 NFC)
10. Atlanta Falcons (6-8, win over GB)
11. Green Bay Packers (6-8, loss to ATL)
12. New York Giants (5-9, win percentage in common games > CHI)
13. Chicago Bears (5-9, win percentage in common games < NYG) 1-2-3, Cancun!
14. Washington Commanders (4-10)
15. Arizona Cardinals (3-11)
16. Carolina Panthers (2-12)

The Seahawks have the Titans, Steelers, and Cardinals to wrap up the season. If Seattle wins out, only the freakiest of freaky scenarios would deny them a wild card berth. This would involve:
—The Rams winning out;
—The Vikings winning out
—The Lions losing both games to the Vikings, but winning the NFC North at 11-6 A three-way tiebreaker among the Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks would push Seattle out.

In other words: If either the Rams or Vikings lose even one game, Seattle makes the playoffs by winning out. The New York Times playoff machine gives Seattle at 45% chance to make the postseason, which is double what it was just a few days ago. What a night! Let’s shelve the draft talk for an evening and celebrate.
