2 takeaways from the Saints win against the Giants

If the Saints play like this the rest of the way, they will go 10-7 The New Orleans Saints have three games left to determine their season, and if they manage to play the way they did against the New York Giants they should win all three. The Saints’ defense was dominant against a Giants team that had won three straight, and Derek Carr and the offense had arguably their best game of the year. The Saints have three winnable games ahead of them, and next travel to Los Angeles to play the Rams, a team that is also 7-7 and fighting for a playoff position. The Saints are playing arguably their best football at the right time, but they must keep it going against the Los Angeles Rams and then against the Bucs and Falcons in the final two weeks. If they do, they will make the playoffs. Image Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images 2. Even if they make the playoffs the Saints should still look to make changes Despite the fact that the Saints have a shot to win the division or even sneak in as a wild card team, they cannot enter next year without making some changes to the coaching staff if they want to sustain success. Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael has long proven to be the biggest reason the Saints offense has stalled. An offense that, given the amount of talent on the roster, has no business being mediocre. Derek Carr has been much maligned this season, but the fact is we have seen him play well with competent coaching in the past, and we have not seen the Saints offense look competent with any quarterback since Sean Payton left and Carmichael took over play calling duties. I just hope the front office doesn’t take a potential playoff berth as a sign that they should retain the coaching staff, because with better offensive coaching this team has the talent to dominate again.
