Raiders News: What Condition the Position is in: Assessing Raiders level of need at CB heading into the Draft

With the draft weeks away, it’s time to check in on the Raiders’ cornerback position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical. Starters: Jack Jones, Nate Hobbs, Brandon Facyson Backups: Jakorian Bennett, Tyler Hall, Sam Webb, Cornell Armstrong  Hobbs was returned to his rightful place in the slot and thus returned to being the best cornerback on this team. The outside cornerback spot was a rotating group. It was supposed tobe Facyson and Marcus Peters on the outside. Then Facyson got hurt, and rookie Jakorian Bennett stepped into the starting role. It became clear quickly that Bennett was not ready, which had Amik Robertson step into the role. On the other side Peters had his struggles, mostly with his unwillingness to tackle, and when Antonio Pierce took over as coach, he soon signed his former college CB Jack Jones off waivers from the Patriots, yanked Peters, and Jones took over the rest of the way. Condition: Serious Notes: Robertson left in free agency, leaving an opening for a starting cornerback and a need for the Raiders to try and upgrade the position. Some believe they could go cornerback with their top pick. And while that would give them their best chance at upgrading the position, it would leave other more dire needs unaddressed until later. But if they don’t get a cornerback on at least the first two days, they will just have to roll with Facyson as the presumptive starter and hope for the best. Email Sign up Like this article?
