Raiders News: What Condition the Position is in: Assessing Raiders level of need at DI heading into the Draft

With the draft weeks away, it’s time to check in on the Raiders’ interior defensive line to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical. Starters: Christian Wilkins, John Jenkins Backups: Adam Butler, Matthew Butler, Byron Young, Nesta Jade Silvera, Marquan McCall Wilkins was one of the top defensive tackles in football last season with nine sacks, 23 QB hits, and 8 tackles for loss. It made him the top defensive tackle, and arguably the top player at any position, on the free agent market. The Raiders let Bilal Nichols leave and cut Jerry Tillery while they brought back John Jenkins and Adam Butler. Butler in particular had a very impressive late season push, leading the defensive interior in sacks (five). Behind them are former draft picks Byron Young (D-3), Matthew Butler (D-5), and Nesta Jade Silvera (D-7) who will all be given another shot to prove they were worth their draft selections. Condition: Strong Notes: No position had a more seismic shift in condition this offseason for the Raiders than defensive tackle. All with the addition of Christian Wilkins who gives the Raiders their best defensive tackle since Richard Seymour. Veteran journeyman John Jenkins proved he’s still got something to offer at the age of 34. And Adam Butler looked like he’s on the verge of being a very good pass rusher from the inside. They can rest at the position this year after taking four DT’s over the past two drafts, none of whom have yet to pan out.
