Patriots officially name Eliot Wolf executive vice president of player personnel

Image Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports Wolf has been in charge of the team’s personnel this offseason. The New England Patriots search for a lead personnel executive has ended where many thought, as the team has officially announced Eliot Wolf as their executive vice president of player personnel. Wolf, who previously held the title of director of scouting, was thrusted into the top role of New England’s new look front office this offseason. He led the charge through free agency and had final say during the NFL Draft, where the Patriots used the No. 3 overall pick on quarterback Drake Maye. Wolf has been joined by director of player personnel Matt Groh, along with head coach Jerod Mayo, senior personnel executive Alonzo Highsmith, director of pro scouting Steve Cargile, director of college scouting Camren Williams, and senior personnel advisor Pat Stewart as New England prioritized a more collaborative approach in the personnel department. “As I have started multiple times during the offseason, the plan was to observe the working relationship and involvement between Eliot and Jerod and see how they managed our offseason personnel decisions,” Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft said in a release. “Then, following the draft we would formally undertake a process for setting up the permanent structure of our personnel department. “I have been impressed with Eliot’s management style and experience and I’m excited that he has agreed to take on this new position.” That evaluation after the draft led to a pair of outside interviews, as Philadelphia Eagles’ director of scouting Brandon Hunt and former Carolina Panthers director of player negotiations and salary cap manager Samir Suleiman met with the organization. New England ultimately decided to remain with Wolf in charge of the personnel department, where his responsibilities will include managing the salary cap and having control of the 53-man roster.
