Patriots vs. Bills inactives: Trent Brown out despite being removed from injury report

Image Photo by Chris Unger/Getty Images The veteran offensive tackle is among several starters inactive for Week 17. The New England Patriots removed several players from their injury report on Friday, including starting left tackle Trent Brown. However, even though he was no longer listed due to the illness the illness that had previously limited him, he will not suit up against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday: the Patriots officially declared him inactive. Brown had played solid football this season when healthy, but a myriad of injuries — chest, ankle, hand — had limited him for the better part of the last three months. But even when he was able to play, he was unable to go a full 100 percent: Brown had not gone wire-to-wire in a game since Week 8. Given his status as an unrestricted free agent after the season, one has to wonder whether the 30-year-old has played his final down for the Patriots. His status as a healthy scratch against the Bills suggests he might have. With that said, let’s take a look at who else will not suit up for New England in Week 17. Patriots inactives
  • WR Kayshon Boutte
  • OT Trent Brown
  • RB JaMycal Hasty
  • TE Hunter Henry
  • S Jabrill Peppers
  • DE Sam Roberts
  • QB Nathan Rourke (emergency QB)
The Patriots previously ruled out three players before their trip to Buffalo. Safety Jabrill Peppers and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte will miss the game due to a hamstring injury and illness, respectively. In addition, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was originally ruled out on Friday with an ankle issue but has since been placed on injured reserve. Joining them on the outs are the aforementioned Trent Brown, as well as another starter, tight end Hunter Henry. Henry will miss a second straight game with a knee injury. Also inactive are depth players JaMycal Hasty, Sam Roberts, and Nathan Rourke. All of them are healthy scratches as well, with Rourke serving as the third emergency quarterback. Defensive tackle Christian Barmore (knee), edge Anfernee Jennings (knee), cornerbacks Jonathan Jones (knee), Myles Bryant (chest) and Shaun Wade (hip), safety Kyle Dugger (illness) and special teams captain Matthew Slater (hamstring), meanwhile, are all good to go after carrying the questionable label. The same is true for recent waiver claim Marco Wilson, who will make his Patriots debut on Sunday. Bills inactives
  • G Alec Anderson
  • CB Kaiir Elam
  • S Damar Hamlin
  • DT Linval Joseph
  • ED Von Miller
The biggest name on the Bills’ list of inactives is outside linebacker Von Miller. Despite not carrying any injury designation during the week, he will not play against New England. The same is true for former first-round cornerback Kaiir Elam, who was activated from injured reserve just this week. Kickoff between the Patriots and Bills at Highmark Stadium is set for 1 p.m. ET.
