Tom Brady defends Steelers safety Damontae Kazee after season-long suspension

Image Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images The NFL announced on Monday that Damontae Kazee will be suspended for the rest of the season. The defensive back was ejected from Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts after a hard hit against wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. — a play that resulted in Pittman Jr. suffering a concussion. “When players violate the rules intended to protect player safety on a repeated basis, and particularly when the violations carry with them a significant risk of injury to an opposing player, it is appropriate to impose substantially greater penalties,” NFL executive Jon Runyan wrote in a letter to Kazee. The suspension was a controversial one, with one prominent voice speaking out against it: the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady. Brady posted a comment on Instagram about the suspension and the play that led to it: Nobody likes seeing players get hurt. But hard hits happen. QBs should not be throwing the ball in areas where they are exposing their own teammates to these types of hits. Coaches need to coach better, QBs needs to read coverages and throw the ball to the right places and defenders should aim for the right hitting areas. To put the blame on the defense player all the time is just flat out wrong. Need better QB play!! It’s not OK QBs to get your WRs hit because of your bad decisions! A future first-ballot Hall of Famer, Brady spent 23 seasons in the NFL and won seven Super Bowls — including six with the New England Patriots.
