Patriots News: Instant analysis of Patriots selecting TE Jaheim Bell with final pick

The New England Patriots selected Florida State tight end Jaheim Bell with their final pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Bell started his career at South Carolina before transferring to Florida State. He is an interesting prospect in the sense that he is a tight end, but he can also play fullback as well. His versatility makes him an offensive threat, and that was evident at Florida State. Bell had 39 catches for 501 yards and three touchdowns in his only season with the Seminoles. He transferred from South Carolina prior to the 2023 season and took more than 40 percent of his snaps out of the slot, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. His size is something to keep in mind with him measuring at 6-foot-3 and 239 pounds as a tight end. He was a decent blocker at the collegiate level, but his size could hurt his blocking in the NFL. An interesting statistic about Bell is that he has forced 36 missed tackles since the 2021 season. This ranked second amongst tight ends according to statistics from Pro Football Focus. This is a smart pick for New England because it gives them depth at the tight end position. Right now, the position is headlined by veterans Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper. A youth infusion is needed at the position, and Bell can help provide it. The team also agreed to a deal with undrafted free agent Jacob Warren. When it comes to Bell, however, New England has the flexibility of allowing him to develop while also trying to figure out where he fits on the team. At the very least, he gives them an athlete that could potentially play multiple positions. He might not be a headline pick, but depending on how he’s used, Bell is certainly a player that can help the Patriots.
