Patriots News: Report: With Bill Belichick gone, Patriots not expected to hire new GM

The New England Patriots got their coach for the future with the Jerod Mayo hiring, and the next shoe to fall was believed to be the team adding a new general manager. But that might not be the case, per a new report. NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry reported on Saturday that the Patriots aren’t expected to hire a new general manager after parting ways with Bill Belichick earlier in the week. If that ends up being the case, it would be an incredibly unorthodox way of doing things with so much riding on this offseason. Not only do the Patriots have the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, but they also have a bevy of cash to spend in free agency. The moves they make (or don’t make) could shape the team for years to come. Here’s what I’m told on the Patriots front-office situation… They are not expected to bring in a new general manager. It’s anticipated by team sources that both Matt Groh and Eliot Wolf will remain with the Patriots and have prominent roles in personnel. — Phil Perry (@PhilAPerry) January 13, 2024 Matt Groh is currently the Patriots’ director of player personnel, while Eliot Wolf serves as the director of scouting. It would seem as if the plan is to attack everything with two in-house de facto general managers in order to keep some semblance of continuity, rather than hiring someone brand new to run the personnel operations. So basically, they’re still the Patriots but without Belichick.
