Ron Rivera out as Commanders head coach after 4-13 season

Image Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports One day after his team lost its eighth straight game to finish the 2023 season with a 4-13 record, Ron Rivera has been fire as head coach of the Washington Commanders. Team owner Josh Harris informed the veteran coach of his decision to part ways on Monday, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The long-time head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Rivera arrive in Carolina in 2020. Over the next four seasons, he led the team to a 26-40-1 regular season record and a one-and-done playoff appearance. While he did make the postseason in Year 1 on the job, Rivera never had a winning record — the team’s 8-8-1 campaign in 2022 was his best effort. One year after that season came to an end, he is now out of a job. Rivera is the fifth head coach to lose his job either during or immediately after the 2023 season. He is joining the Atlanta Falcons’ Arthur Smith as well as the Las Vegas Raiders’ Josh McDaniels, Carolina Panthers’ Frank Reich, and Los Angeles Chargers’ Brandon Staley.
