Patriots vs. Broncos highlights: Defense starts with a successful goal-line stop

Image The New England Patriots offense started its Week 16 game against the Denver Broncos in the worst way possible, by turning the football over on its very first snap of the night. The Bailey Zappe lost fumble set up Denver at the New England 6-yard line and in prime position to take an early lead. However, the Patriots defense had none of that. The Broncos’ first possession of the game started with consecutive 2-yard runs, followed by a risky throw on third down that was almost intercepted by linebacker Mack Wilson (and in fact only overturned after replay). Despite not gaining much momentum on the first three plays, head coach Sean Payton left his offense on the field to attempt a 4th-and-goal from the New England 2-yard line. The result was more of the same for Denver: a stuffed run courtesy of linebacker Anfernee Jennings, one of the surprising bright spots for the Patriots this year.
