The quarterback depth chart will remain at three for the New England Patriots. The organization claimed Nathan Rourke off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, as first reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. Rourke, 25, joins Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones in the quarterback room. His arrival on the 53-man roster in Foxborough will require a corresponding move. The British Columbia native spent one season at Fort Scott Community College before transferring to Ohio University, where he started 39 games and totaled 7,457 passing yards, 2,639 rushing yards as well as 20 receiving yards. His Bobcats career spanned a combined 121 touchdowns against 20 interceptions. Selected in the second round of the 2020 CFL draft, Rourke went on to complete 307-of-406 passes for 4,103 yards with 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions as a member of the BC Lions. Across two campaigns, he rushed for 415 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to being named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2022. NFL workouts followed for Rourke, who signed with Jacksonville last January. After being waived at the league’s roster deadline, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound preseason standout made two stops apiece on the practice squad and active roster for the Jaguars. Previous third Patriots quarterback Will Grier departed from the practice squad for a spot on the Los Angeles Chargers’ active roster on Monday. In additional movement, New England is expected to sign former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn to the practice squad, per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Vaughn, 26, cleared waivers last weekend. The 2020 third-round draft choice out of Illinois and Vanderbilt earned a Super Bowl LV ring during his stay with Tampa Bay. Over the course of 43 games, he totaled 465 yards from scrimmage through 103 carries and 14 catches. The 5-foot-10, 214-pound back stands with three career touchdowns, including a long from 55 yards out. The Patriots visit the Denver Broncos next Sunday at Empower Field. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
