After three elevations, Calvin Munson will be heading back to the other side of the AFC East. The 9-3 Miami Dolphins have signed the veteran linebacker off the 3-10 New England Patriots’ practice squad, according to a report Saturday from ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Munson, 28, previously landed on the organization’s 53-man roster in December 2019. He was then claimed off waivers in December 2021. Now begins his third separate tour in Miami Gardens after three separate tours in Foxborough. The San Diego State product originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants in 2017 before joining head coach Bill Belichick’s practice squad en route to Super Bowl LIII. Through 46 career games, including 22 appearances with the Dolphins and 10 appearances with the Patriots, he has totaled 88 tackles to go with two sacks and one forced fumble. Reverting to the practice squad for the final time in November, under league rules, Munson saw 11 snaps on defense and 25 snaps on special teams this season for New England. Prior to his departure, the Patriots were awarded fellow linebacker and core special-teamer Christian Elliss off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. The practice squad now includes two openings following the recent release of kicker Matthew Wright.
