Patriots vs. Chargers Thursday injury report: Kayshon Boutte a non-participant alongside Demario Douglas

The New England Patriots headed back to the practice fields without two rookie wide receivers. Demario Douglas remained sidelined from Thursday’s work on the Los Angeles Chargers while in the NFL’s concussion protocol for the second time this fall. Fellow sixth-round pick Kayshon Boutte joined him as absent after beginning the week among the limited due to a shoulder issue as well as an illness. Veteran offensive lineman Riley Reiff, who has yet to be activated back from injured reserve, also did not participate for New England. Here’s the second injury report leading up to Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium. DID NOT PARTICIPATE Patriots
  • WR Demario Douglas (concussion)
  • WR Kayshon Boutte (shoulder, illness)
  • G Riley Reiff (knee)
Chargers
  • WR Keenan Allen (quad)
  • TE Nick Vannett (concussion)
  • G Zack Bailey (back)
  • CB Ja’Sir Taylor (illness)
Douglas was ruled out in the fourth quarter last Sunday against the New York Giants after being clotheslined on a punt return. The Liberty product has started four of New England’s last five games and leads the team with 410 receiving yards. And for the Chargers, Allen has now missed consecutive practices because of a quad injury. The five-time Pro Bowl wideout, who ranks atop the league with 129 targets and 97 receptions, has totaled 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. LIMITED PARTICIPATION Patriots
  • RB Ezekiel Elliott (thigh)
  • OT Trent Brown (ankle, chest)
  • G Sidy Sow (ankle)
  • C David Andrews (foot)
  • DE Deatrich Wise Jr. (shoulder)
  • LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (hamstring)
  • LB Chris Board (back)
  • ST Matthew Slater (ankle)
Chargers
  • OT Trey Pipkins III (wrist)
  • S JT Woods (illness)
While Boutte and Reiff were downgraded to sidelined on Thursday, eight others continued to practice in a partial capacity for the Patriots. This week’s new arrivals in that group include Elliott in the backfield, Andrews and Sow on the interior, as well as Board on special teams. All of whom were active for what became a 10-7 loss at MetLife Stadium. FULL PARTICIPATION Patriots
  • RB Ty Montgomery II (illness)
Chargers
  • WR Quentin Johnston (ribs, finger)
  • TE Gerald Everett (shoulder)
  • OT Rashawn Slater (back)
  • DT Otito Ogbonnia (knee)
  • LB Kenneth Murray Jr. (shoulder)
  • LB Eric Kendricks (knee)
The Patriots had Montgomery back at practice in full. The rusher, receiver and returner missed Wednesday’s session while dealing with an illness. And on the Chargers’ side of the aisle, Slater was upgraded to full on Thursday after opening the week as limited due to a back injury. The No. 13 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft has played 100 percent of the offensive snaps this campaign at left tackle.
