 Another guard in, as several defenders left.Carolina lost free agents Frankie Luvu and Yetur Gross Matos, and traded away franchise player Brian Burns Monday.But they gained what seems to be a lot of their weakness on the OL covered - first with a megadeal on Robert Hunt, the mammoth RG who moves like a 290 lb guy (and not just on what would have been an ideal big man TD, had he been eligible).Late Monday night, they also added former Seahawks guard Damien Lewis to a 4-year, $53M deal with $26.2M guaranteed. Plan at present seems to be, for Lewis to play a natural LG and Hunt his RG, and quite possibly Austin Corbett stays as a center, that last bit championed by the Observer's Mike Kaye.
An oddity - Lewis and Hunt were both 2020 draft picks in day 2, from a Louisiana school.Assumedly Brady Christensen is the swing tackle, Chandler Zavala and plenty of young guys fight at G.  Unless a great player shows (and at that, probably a C), the OL is not a draft focus.One thing to be said for the Seahawks and Saints, among smaller QBs, is having a really good interior OL, and Carolina is paying for the right to have one. Time will tell if they are right.Certainly, they can't spend much more on the OL, so they will have to work toward a receiver or TE soon.
