Packers News: Kingsley Enagbare did not tear his ACL in 2023

Image Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images Some rare good veteran news on draft day for the Green Bay Packers. In the post-draft press conference, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the team’s pass-rushing situation, a question that was asked due to the fact that the team did not spend any of their 2024 draft picks on 4-3 defensive ends. When the name Kingsley Enagbare came up, though, he broke a bit of news: Enagbare actually never tore his ACL in 2023. Enagbare went down in the playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys and told the media that he “tore it,” on locker cleanout day, per The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. LaFleur, though, said that a tear was never confirmed and that Enagbare never had surgery on the knee. When he was pressed on if there was still an expectation that Enagbare would miss the start of the season due to the injury, the head coach pushed back and stated that he was looking good. So that’s probably why the Packers chose not to add anyone to their defensive end room. While the team is transitioning from a 3-4 to a 4-3 front, Green Bay returns Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Lukas Van Ness and Benton Cox Jr. from their 2023 53-man roster, even if Enagbare isn’t healthy. Beyond those players, the squad also has Deslin Alexandre, Keshawn Banks, Kenneth Odumegwu, Deandre Johnson and Arron Mosby listed at defensive end on their current 90-man roster. Don’t expect Colby Wooden to contribute at defensive end this year, though, as he stated on the Packers draft party stream that he has gained weight this offseason and is up to 290 pounds, putting him right around the playing size of your prototypical 4-3 under tackle. Update: When asked about the situation, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst claimed that the team initially feared the worst, but was “pleasantly” surprised by the fact that Enagbare did not suffer a full ACL tear versus the Cowboys.
