The Green Bay Packers have made their fourth selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, using pick number 88 overall in the third round. With that pick, the Packers have chosen to go back to the offense, selecting running back Marshawn Lloyd out of USC. Lloyd continues the Packers’ recent trend of going heavier with their running backs. In moving from Aaron Jones to Josh Jacobs, the Packers went from a player who played at under 200 pounds to one who measures in around 225. Lloyd is a short, stout runner, measuring just 5-foot-9 but weighing 220 pounds. And at that size, he ran an impressive 4.46-second 40-yard dash at the 2024 Combine. Lloyd also put up an impressive 25 reps on the bench press. Lloyd has plenty of burst and vision, but did not have a huge workload in college. He had just 291 carries and 325 total touches in college, but he averaged over 7 yards per carry in 2023. Additionally, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah had Lloyd ranked as his number one running back in the entire draft class. Lloyd will join a running back room that is entirely 220-plus pounders now, with Jacobs, AJ Dillon, and Emanuel Wilson filling out the rest of the room.
