Packers workout 6 players ahead of Chiefs matchup

Image Photo by Wesley Hitt/Getty Images It looks like Green Bay wants to add tight end depth, following Luke Musgrave’s lacerated kidney that left him on IR. According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Green Bay Packers worked out six players on Monday: QB Jarrett Guarantano, RB Brenden Knox, RB John Lovett, TE Devi Asiasi, TE Nick Eubanks and TE Joel Wilson. If a couple of these names sound familiar, it’s because the Packers have brought them in before. Green Bay worked out Guarantano back in August when they were still trying to figure out who was going to be their practice squad quarterback this season. Most recently, Guarantano was a member of the Denver Broncos in the preseason. Jarrett Guarantano hits Jontre Kirklin for the touchdown!

The tight end has been bouncing around the league for three seasons now, mostly on summer rosters and practice squads. It’s interesting that Green Bay brought in three tight end bodies, as the team currently doesn’t have a tight end on the practice squad. Last week, following injuries to Luke Musgrave (IR) and Josiah Deguara, the Packers had to elevate fullback Henry Pearson from the practice squad to play a couple of offensive snaps and fill out a special teams role. Nick Eubanks is a TE prospect in the 2021 draft class. He scored a 8.61 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 127 out of 906 TE from 1987 to 2021.

Both players were called up from the practice squad last week to the active roster, which means they might revert back to the practice squad — if they pass through waivers on Tuesday. While no signing has been made official yet, don’t be surprised if one of either Robinson or Melton doesn’t make the cut, though, as the Packers seem to be eyeing a tight end. He was also recently drafted into the XFL by the Seattle Sea Dragons. John Lovett is a RB prospect in the 2022 draft class. He scored a 4.58 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 885 out of 1632 RB from 1987 to 2022. https://t.co/YMx3T4Ecpy #RAS via https://t.co/BLqsXFy9ie pic.twitter.com/rYJdr3QbPe— Kent Lee Platte (@MathBomb) May 2, 2022 John Lovett is not the fullback, who goes by the same name, who played for the Packers back in 2020. Instead, this one is a former Baylor transfer who landed at Penn State and eventually signed as an undrafted rookie with the Pittsburgh Steelers this spring. The former third-round pick has played for the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns, recording four regular-season receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown. Joe Wilson was an undrafted free agent pickup for the New Orleans Saints this spring who wound up spending two months on the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.
