Friday Cheese Curds: Packers take it slow in return to practice routines

Image Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images In the first of four weeks of installs, there’s no reason to rush the process. With a three-day weekend ahead, the Green Bay Packers will have a bit of time to break after their first week of spring practices. Week one of OTAs is in the books, with the Packers having practiced behind closed doors on Monday and Thursday and in front of the media on Tuesday. It’s great to finally be getting some news and media availability from various players in the locker room, and there has been no shortage of notable items coming out of this first week. We now know about Tucker Kraft’s and Zach Tom’s torn pectorals, but we also learned about Christian Watson’s massively imbalanced lower-body musculature, Keisean Nixon being “real excited” about going to Brazil, and the Packers’ plans for joint practices. With the team gradually letting players talk and working slowly in drills, it was a nice week of easing back into the grind of a football season, which seems to be a deliberate effort on the part of Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff. After all, it’s important to let people transition gradually into new routines, for both their mental and physical well-being. The Packers will be back on the field again next week coming out of the Memorial Day weekend, so expect more news and a bit of a ramp-up in intensity in the second week of OTAs. It's no surprise that the Packers are taking things slowly in OTAs to get young players -- and even veterans on defense -- acclimated to new systems. It's also no surprise that they aren't letting many rookies take first-team reps, as that's a typical approach at this time of year. AJ Dillon Explains Why He Re-Signed With Packers | SI.com
Dillon says he talked to multiple other teams, but it's not clear if there were any other contract offers on the table. In any case, he's another player who feels like he's in the best shape of his life (there's that cliché again) and that he truly wanted to stay in Green Bay for his family. It would be a bit understandable for a newcomer to Aldi to be surprised by the efficiency of the cashiers, but this one must have been really aggressive for an experienced shopper to react like this.
