Packers Reacts Results: Fans want Eric Stokes to start at corner

Image Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images 58 percent of Packers fans say they want the former first-round pick to play next to Jaire Alexander. Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Green Bay Packers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys. We asked you two questions this week, one that ended up coming out one-sided and another that ended up being a relatively tight race in the end. Now that we’ve seen how the practice rotations are going to work out this summer, let’s try to get some answers about Green Bay’s depth chart. Image The overwhelming majority of Packers fans don’t want to see Elgton Jenkins moved to another position. While one of Jenkins’ biggest strengths is his versatility, it seems like fans are tired of him moving around — which could be limiting his overall performance. As a rookie, Jenkins almost exclusively played left tackle. In 2020, he split time between left guard and center with a couple of snaps at left tackle and right tackle. In 2021, he played all but one snap that season as a left tackle. By 2022, he was once again splitting time at left guard and right tackle. Last year was the first season in his NFL career that he played all of his offensive snaps at the same position: left guard. Based on previous polls we’ve run, fans are also split as to whether Zach Tom, who is currently nursing a pec injury, should play right tackle or center with the addition of first-round rookie Jordan Morgan. We’ll learn more about Green Bay’s plans for Tom when he returns to the field in training camp, his expected return on his current timeline per head coach Matt LaFleur. If Jenkins and/or Tom don’t get serious burn at center, though, it’s almost certain that Josh Myers will return as the team’s starting center in 2024 — with only fifth-round rookie Jacob Monk being a dark horse to contend for the starting job. Image The first poll result was a blowout, but this one is a very tight race. As of now, only a 16 percent gap makes up the difference between Packers fans who want Eric Stokes to start at outside cornerback opposite of Jaire Alexander compared to Carrington Valentine. Stokes dealt with multiple hamstring issues last season after recovering from season-ending knee and ankle injuries in 2022. Ultimately, he started two of the three games he was available for, but he only played 110 total defensive snaps last season. Over the last two years, he’s played just 587 defensive snaps, compared to the 935 that he registered in his rookie season when he held opposing quarterbacks to a 71.3 passer rating when targeted. If availability is truly the best ability, Valentine brought a lot to the table as a rookie last year. He not only played 17 games, but he also started 12 games as an injury replacement, despite being selected in the seventh round. He allowed just a passer rating of 84.8 over 695 defensive snaps, which is starting-caliber production.
