NY Jets make massive trade in Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft

ImageDaniel Jeremiah thinks the New York Jets could pull a shocking draft-day trade New York Jets fans are all ears whenever Daniel Jeremiah comments on the team, as he is closely connected to Jets general manager Joe Douglas. Jeremiah and Douglas worked together as scouts for the Baltimore Ravens. Since Douglas became the Jets’ GM, Jeremiah has displayed a knack for predicting Douglas’ moves. In his latest mock draft, Jeremiah had the Jets pulling off a trade that would send the entire league into a tizzy. Image Jeremiah has the Jets trading up from No. 10 to No. 5, sending a future second-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in the deal. With the fifth overall pick, he has New York selecting the consensus No. 1 wide receiver in the draft: Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. Jeremiah writes, “The Jets are all-in with a veteran quarterback and they recently acquired two offensive tackles to shore up the O-line. They desperately need another playmaker in the passing game to complement Garrett Wilson, so they trade up to select Harrison, the top receiver in the draft and Wilson’s former Ohio State teammate.” Harrison is the top-ranked non-quarterback on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board. The son of the longtime Colts legend is considered a slam-dunk star by most evaluators. Adding him to an offense that already includes Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall would drive Jets fans to a level of offseason hype that they probably have never experienced before. As of this moment, the wide receiver position remains a dire need for the Jets. They have yet to add any new players to the position this offseason. If they were to take the field today, Wilson would be joined by Allen Lazard and Xavier Gipson in three-receiver packages. That’s not going to get it done if the Jets want to seriously compete for a Super Bowl. The Jets are in the process of addressing the issue. Today, they are meeting with free agent wide receiver Mike Williams, formerly of the Chargers. If the Jets can land Williams, it’s fair to wonder whether they would consider making such an aggressive move in the draft for a wide receiver. Nonetheless, Jeremiah’s prediction is fascinating. It goes to show how much the Jets’ draft outlook has changed since their full-court press on the offensive line last week. Now that they have completed their five-man starting lineup in the trenches, anything and everything is on the table in the first round. From here on out, offensive tackle will no longer be the shoo-in choice for the Jets at No. 10. It’s still an option, but wide receiver and tight end have joined the conversation, and on top of that, the Jets are now considered far more likely to consider trading either up or down. It’s going to be an exhilarating five weeks leading up to the draft.
