Jets News: Top 7 WRs available for Jets after first wave of free agency

Through the initial wave of free agent signings, the New York Jets have been able to address a few of their biggest positional needs. However, wide receiver, specifically finding a legitimate No. 2 option alongside Garrett Wilson, still remains. In a matter of days, GM Joe Douglas has reshaped the Jets’ offensive line, signing Tyron Smith and John Simpson, along with trading for Morgan Moses. He found a backup quarterback in Tyrod Taylor and bolstered the interior defensive line depth. But the receiver position was not addressed. In terms of free agency, options are dwindling. Douglas also has to continue to be mindful of the salary cap as well. While Over the Cap has the Jets with $20.4 million in available cap space, roughly half of that is going to be needed just to sign the incoming draft class. There is still room to operate, along with other cap-saving moves available to Douglas to create any needed cap space. But it’s also worth noting that at this stage of the free agency game, the majority of the spending has already taken place as well. If the Jets don’t add that secondary target in free agency, and again, there are few options available, they could turn to the draft, which is very deep at the receiver position. With only two picks in the top 100, the Jets have limited draft capital to address the need but did gain more flexibility in free agency by building out their starting offensive line. While continuing to add to such an important position group is important, it’s no longer a must that they select a tackle at 10th overall. Instead, they could see how the board falls and perhaps take one of the top receivers there, or even trade down, still addressing the offensive line or receiver, while gaining an additional top 100 pick in the process. As we get deeper into free agency, the odds of the Jets finding that dynamic, high-impact No. 2 receiver becomes smaller, making it more likely that they’ll have to try to find that player in the draft. With help from PFF’s free agency rankings, here are the top remaining options still available at the receiver position.
