Dolphins News: Dolphins to sign former Lions DL Benito Jones

The Miami Dolphins have been doing a lot to add to their defensive line room early in the offseason, as they’ve already signed Isaiah Mack, Daviyon Nixon and Neville Gallimore in just over a week’s time. However, the Dolphins aren’t done adding at the position. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Miami is signing old friend Benito Jones. Jones, 26, was originally signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss in 2020 and spent his first two seasons with the team, playing in just six games and recording two total tackles. After failing to make the 53-man roster in 2022, Jones was claimed by the Detroit Lions, where he got regular opportunities to play and even became a starter this past year. For Detroit, Jones recorded 42 tackles (three for a loss), 10 quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and two passes defensed in 34 games. Jones is far from a guarantee to make Miami’s roster in 2024, but he’ll certainly be in the competition alongside Mack, Nixon, Gallimore and 2023 undrafted rookie Brandon Pili.
