Dolphins News: Dolphins signing former Chiefs TE Jody Fortson

The Miami Dolphins got very little production from their tight end room in 2023, with Durham Smythe being the only real contributor at the position, so they’ve made it a point to address the need this offseason. On Thursday, NFL agency Katz Brothers Sports shared that their client, tight end Jody Fortson, is signing with the Dolphins. Fortson, 28, was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2019 following a collegiate career as a wide receiver at Valdosta State where he helped his team win a Division II national championship. He spent the first two seasons on the Chiefs practice squad before making the active roster in 2021 and 2022, recording 14 receptions for 155 yards and four touchdowns in 19 games. Fortson missed all of the 2023 after dislocating his shoulder before Week 1. If Fortson makes the team in Miami, he’ll likely be used as a run blocker and red-zone threat, considering he has received great run-blocking grades from Pro Football Focus (85.8 in 2021 and 73.9 in  2022) and has brought in four touchdowns on just 14 receptions. The Dolphins tight end room now includes Smythe, Fortson, Jonnu Smith, Julian Hill and Tanner Conner.
