Dolphins News: Breaking down the contract terms for new Dolphins LB Jordyn Brooks

The Miami Dolphins, after releasing linebacker Jerome Baker, entered the legal tampering window with a clear need at the position, leading to the addition of two linebackers, including Jordyn Brooks. Brooks, 26, agreed to a three-year deal worth $26.25 million to join the Dolphins earlier in the week. According to Over the Cap, he will receive base salaries of $1.13 million (fully guaranteed) in 2024, $7.82 million ($6.5 million guaranteed) in 2025 and $7.82 million in 2026. The deal also includes an $8.38 million signing bonus (prorated at $2.79 million each year), $1.02 million in per-game roster bonuses ($510,000 in 2025 and $510,000 in 2026) and $100,000 in workout bonuses ($50,000 in 2025 and $50,000 in 2026). Brooks’s contract comes with cap hits of $3.92 million in 2024, $11.17 million in 2025 and $11.17 in 2026 as well as $1.25 million in incentives (playtime, club ranking and Pro Bowl). With the way that this contract is set up, Miami will likely have to keep him on the roster through 2025, as the cap savings from a release wouldn’t outweigh the dead money until the final year of this current contract. Obviously, if Brooks plays well and proves to be a fit with the defense, they’ll probably try to keep him around and could reduce the cap hits with an extension in the future.
