Dolphins News: Dolphins expected to sign former Bills S Jordan Poyer

The Miami Dolphins entered this offseason with a significant need for help at safety with Brandon Jones (agreed to join the Denver Broncos) and DeShon Elliott hitting the market. On Tuesday, Miami addressed that problem, as they’ve agreed to a one-year deal with former Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Poyer, 32, was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL draft following his college days at Oregon State that included an All-American final season. The safety was waived midway through his rookie season and claimed by the Cleveland Browns, where he began to make a name for himself. After the completion of his rookie deal, he signed with the Bills in 2017, and he’s remained there on multiple deals ever since. In 107 career games, Poyer has recorded 806 tackles (37 for a loss), 54 passes defensed, 24 interceptions, 17 quarterback hits, 12 sacks, nine forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries while making two Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team. He’ll pair with budding star Jevon Holland in the defensive backfield, which should make things much easier for new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, who has watched a number of talented players depart from his unit in the last 36 hours.
