7-round Cowboys mock draft: The All-in Edition

The see-through curtain rises on the NFL season on Wednesday. While a large portion of free agency feels like it’s already completed, that’s only because the facade of the legal tampering period has been going on. On Monday at noon, NFL teams were allowed to “begin” negotiating with other club’s free agents. Of course, illegal tampering had been going on, and the deals which had begun developing during the scouting combine started to get leak.The Dallas Cowboys, of course, are not part of this group of teams with something to show for the previous 48 hours. The Cowboys haven’t agreed to terms with a single player from outside the organization. The only returning player thus far is long snapper Trent Sieg and five of their former players have already found themselves new homes. When Jerry Jones said the club would be all-in for 2024, the fans took things entirely differently from how it seems he meant it. All-in is a poker term for when you push "all" of your chips "in" to the middle of the table, betting on THE CARDS YOU'VE ALREADY BEEN DEALT.

Perfect timing for a new mock draft!In our latest simulation using Pro Football Focus’ engine, we explore the ever-growing possibility that the Cowb/oys and Dak Prescott could be parting ways after 2024. While that doesn’t mean they have to chase a quarterback with their first-round pick, what happens if one they like falls to them? Mock drafts are interesting exercises because they can be approached in multiple directions. Things lined up ridiculously fortuitously in this iteration, probably a one-in-a-million shot that these prospects were available and these trades consummated. But it was all above board, so away we go with the ultimate seven-round mock.
