Cowboys most important position to target in free agency

The Cowboys aren't known for being big spenders in free agency. The "we like our guys" mantra dominates the front office's sentiment in both word and deed. The Cowboys prefer to draft and develop, using free agency as a supportive measure rather than a building tool. It's saved them countless millions over the years even if it came at a cost on the field. The Cowboys have indicated this offseason will be more of the same. Waiting until after the market has cooled has proved successful from time to time. As long as the Cowboys aren't picky, bargains can be found. Some positions Dallas can sit back and address opportunistically. They can do their annual bargain hunting, targeting players who slip through the free agent cracks. Other positions are too important to rely solely on bargain hunting and/or the draft. They are positions that need clear veteran solutions and can't afford to be inadequately addressed this offseason. In 2024, that position is defensive tackle.DT is a position the Cowboys should be especially focused on in free agency because it stands to make the biggest impact. It's a position of weakness on the Cowboys with no clear solutions developing in the background.  For as important as OL and LB are for Dallas this offseason, DT is the most important position for them to specifically address in free agency. Not only is the DT pool particularly deep this period, but the needs on the team, and impact to the positions around it, give the DT position a particularly high bang-for-the-buck payoff.
