Cowboys News: Kendrick Lamar kickoff, Prescott, Cooks star in OTAs

Well, “Here we go!” Cowboys fans as the familiar chant made famous by quarterback Dak Prescott was heard on the Dallas practice field and the march towards Super Bowl LVIII has begun. Voluntary organized team activities were missing a few big names but the majority of players were in attendance in some fashion. Practice was made available to the media for the first time this week and a few quick observations may solidify a few assumptions floating around Dallas. It also gave quarterback Dak Prescott a chance to talk to the public. The first glimpse of rookie first-round pick Tyler Guyton lined up next to All-Pro guard Tyler Smith could be the beginning of a long relationship. One situationship far more complicated is that of Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance. It appears as if his development is going well, garnering praise from those in attendance. This is good as the cost to acquire Lance may have saved the Cowboys from a pricey investment. Elsewhere, prepping for the 2024 season is the primary focus yet it is hard not to think about 2025 as Dallas will have 30 free agents on the horizon. As many Dallas second-round picks have failed to live up to expectations, defensive end Sam Williams has a final opportunity to replace two departed teammates. Speaking of second-round picks, tight end Luke Schoonmaker is not participating in OTAs this week as another injury has sidelined him again. The Cowboys choose a side in the Kendrick Lamar-Drake rap beef, and much more in this edition of Cowboys News and Notes.
