The roster churn in Washington continues. After signing 14 outside free agents this week, the Commanders saw three of their top free agents head elsewhere on Thursday. First, it was cornerback Kendall Fuller heading to Maimi, followed by wide receiver Curtis Samuel landing in Buffalo. Then, just before midnight, Mike Garofolo of the NFL Network broke the news that safety Kam Curl finally has a new home. Curl is heading to the Los Angeles Rams after signing a two-year deal worth up to $13 million. However, an ownership change put any re-signings on hold, and Curl and the Commanders failed to reach a deal before free agency opened. The 25-year-old Curl played in 60 games for Washington, recording 385 tackles, including 15 for loss, 11 QB hits, five sacks, three interceptions and one forced fumble. Curl wanted to remain in Washington, but the two sides disagreed on his value. The glut of free-agent safeties available didn’t help Curl either. While Curl is an excellent player, the one knock on him is that he doesn’t make enough plays on the ball. All three career interceptions came in 2020. Curl’s time in Washington essentially ended earlier this week when the Commanders signed former Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn to a one-year deal. Washington’s new coaching staff likes Quan Martin and Darrick Forrest and, with the signing of Chinn, Jeremy Reaves’ return, and Percy Butler still around, it liked the overall depth of the group.
