Former Commanders WR Curtis Samuel signs 3-year deal with Bills

The Washington Commanders added another free agent Thursday, agreeing to a one-year deal with linebacker Anthony Pittman. Washington also brought back another of its own free agents, as defensive end Efe Obada will return in 2024. However, Thursday also saw Washington lose two of its top free agents when Kendall Fuller signed a two-year contract with the Dolphins, and, finally, wide receiver Curtis Samuel agreed to a three-year deal with the Bills. Samuel was Washington’s second-leading receiver in 2023, with 62 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns. Overall, in three seasons with the Commanders, Samuel had 132 receptions, 1,298 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Samuel is a tough player to lose but, like Fuller, never appeared to be the focus of new general manager Adam Peters. Peters likely saw both getting better deals elsewhere. The Commanders need help at wide receiver, but it will likely be a cheaper veteran option. They could also address it in next month’s NFL draft. Washington returns Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Dyami Brown are the Commanders’ top three wide receivers now.
