Commanders unveil jersey numbers for their entire rookie class

The Washington Commanders begin rookie minicamp on Friday, and their entire rookie class knows what number they will wear. The Commanders unveiled jersey numbers for all nine members of their 2024 NFL draft class on Thursday evening. Jersey numbers don’t typically create headlines, but Washington’s top pick — quarterback Jayden Daniels (No. 2 overall) — was seemingly waiting for the status of the No. 5 jersey. The No. 5 was worn by punter and team captain Tress Way for the past 10 seasons, but not anymore. Way voluntarily gave his No. 5 to the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Some of Washington’s other rookies revealed their numbers on social media ahead of the final reveal, including second-round cornerback Mike Sainristil. The rookie from Michigan will wear No. 2 — currently worn by wide receiver Dyami Brown. What does that mean for Brown? For now, probably nothing, but he will be in a battle to make the Commanders’ 53-man roster this summer. Teammates can wear the same jersey number in the offseason and in the preseason but not in the regular season. Here’s a look at the jersey numbers for all nine of Washington’s draft picks.
