Colts News: Colts hosted TCU safety Mark Perry on official pre-draft visit

The Colts have hosted TCU safety Mark Perry on an official pre-draft visit, according to Aaron Wilson. Perry is an elite athlete, just what GM Chris Ballard looks for. He stands 6-0, weighs 211 pounds, and recorded a Relative Athletic Score of 9.59, which includes a 4.4-second 40-yard dash and nearly an 11-foot broad jump. Perry spent three seasons at Colorado before transferring to TCU for his final two. He played 2,657 career snaps, with 838 of them coming in the box, 1,207 as a free safety, and 540 from the slot. He recorded 65-plus tackles in each of the last three seasons but does have a missed tackle rate of 16.4 percent over his career. For some context, that figure would have ranked 184th at the safety position in 2023. Over the last two years in coverage, Pery allowed a completion rate of 65 percent on 49 targets at 14.5 yards per catch with four pass breakups. He’s played 280 special teams snaps in his career as well. The Colts have a lack of experienced depth on the roster at the safety position behind Julian Blackmon, Nick Cross, and Rodney Thomas. The addition of a player like Perry could help elevate the back end of that position group, with the potential to develop into a larger role down the road. From Day 1, Perry should be able to compete for playing time on special teams. He brings a rare blend of size and speed to this position. PFF has Perry ranked as their 294th prospect in this year’s draft class. He will likely either be a late Day 3 pick or will sign somewhere as an undrafted rookie.
