Colts News: Colts agree to terms with QB Joe Flacco

The Indianapolis Colts agreed to terms with free-agent quarterback Joe Flacco on a one-year deal, per multiple reports Wednesday. Needing a backup for young quarterback Anthony Richardson, the Colts went the veteran route with the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the one-year deal is worth up to $8.7 million and includes $4.5 million guaranteed. His time there included a Super Bowl XLVII victory and Super Bowl XLII MVP award. Flacco bounced around the league starting in 2019, beginning that journey with the Denver Broncos (2019). He also spent time with the New York Jets (2020, 2021-2022), Philadelphia Eagles (2021) and Cleveland Browns (2023). Flacco’s 2023 campaign was short-lived but impressive. He helped the Browns reach the playoffs after Deshaun Watson dealt with a shoulder injury that forced him out of the second half of the season. With P.J. Walker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson not being up to par, Flacco signed to the Browns practice squad in November. In five starts, Flacco completed 60.3% of his passes for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He averaged 323.2 passing yards per game during that stretch, easily the highest mark of his career. Having Flacco on board gives the Colts a viable backup option for Richardson in the event the young quarterback misses more time due to injury.
