Bucs News: Todd Bowles looking forward to Chris Godwin playing in Buccaneers new offense

Image Photo by Michael Hickey/Getty Images Godwin may find himself as a focal point for the offense in 2024. Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin had a strange season in 2023. There were flashes of what we’ve been used to seeing out of the veteran receiver, but often times disappeared from games and stat sheets. The latter led to the infamous social media posting of his wife’s displeasure with the team which was quickly followed by retraction of sorts. However, the relevant questions periodically mentioned throughout 2023 was why the Bucs under for offensive coordinator Dave Canales were never truly able to get Godwin going? Well, it appears they may have answers to those questions in 2024. Head coach Todd Bowles revealed they are excited to see Godwin in Tampa Bay’s new offense. “We plan to let him do a lot of things that he does best,” said Bowles when speaking to the media this week. “He was coming off the injury last year, so I don’t know if he was at full tilt inside or outside, but he looks a lot quicker, a lot lighter, and he’s healthier now. He’s eager to learn and get the offense down, so we’re just excited to have him out on the field.” Godwin finished 2023 with 83 catches for 1,024 yards and just two touchdowns. Many teams would love for their WR2 to have that kind of a stat line. But even though that is a decent stat line, Tampa Bay is well aware of Godwin’s capabilities. And those capabilities may come out in 2024.
