Week 15 Snap Count Analysis: Bucs At Packers

Each week after every Bucs game, we’ll take a closer look at the snap count distribution for Tampa Bay on offense and defense. We’ll assess what we can learn from who played the most and least from the game. The Bucs are experiencing some momentum as they’ve ripped off their third win in a row, with this one being their most convincing of the trio. Tampa Bay went into Green Bay and put on its best offensive performance of the season with a 34-20 win over the Packers in which Baker Mayfield had a perfect quarterback rating. Bucs Offense Image The running backs stayed to their usual snap count percentages and the Bucs have really found a groove with that group. Rachaad White had yet another 100-all purpose-yard day while Chase Edmonds plays felt meaningful when he was in, averaging 4.3 rushing yards per attempt. White’s 81% was his lowest amount in December, but it wasn’t a major dropoff. ImageBucs WR David Moore – Photo by: USA Today We saw the same type of numbers for Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. What will be telling moving forward is how much David Moore will cut into the playing time of Trey Palmer and Deven Thompkins. Of those three, Moore by far had the biggest impact with two catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. His score was a highlight 52-yard catch and run that gave Baker Mayfield his fourth touchdown pass of the game. Moore has outproduced Palmer and Thompkins over the last two games and should probably get more snaps. It’s already trending that way, as Palmer’s 56% was his lowest since Week 2. Thompkins’ numbers have dipped as well and he’s been on a weird trajectory lately. In Weeks 11 and 13, he only played 7%. In Week 12, he was on for 21% of the snaps and had just 18% this week. I’m not sure as to why every other week he gets such a low number, but I’m curious if that’ll happen again next week. Tight end Cade Otton saw his least amount of playing time all season, but still was at 90%. That meant a little more snaps for Ko Kieft and Payne Durham, who both clocked in at 21%. That little extra playing time paid off, as Kieft scored a touchdown. It was his second of his career and first of this season. Bucs Defense Image He may not have played 100% of the snaps like Lavonte David, Antoine Winfield Jr, Zyon McCollum and Jamel Dean, but K.J. Britt at 90% deserves a lot of credit. Britt was everywhere in the game and has played very solid over the last three weeks. What he’s showing is that he is in contention to be a starter next season at linebacker. ImageBucs ILB KJ Britt and Packers RB Aaron Jones – Photo by: USA Today The Bucs had a rotation at strong safety to play opposite of linebacker. Dee Delaney played the most at 78%, with Kaevon Merriweather subbing in for 28%. Nickel corner Christian Izien had a lot of playing time as well with 78% and played better on Sunday than he has in recent weeks. A shoutout needs to be given to the rookies along the defensive front, as defensive tackle Calijah Kancey (60%) and outside linebacker YaYa Diaby (58%) saw the most time. Nose tackles Vita Vea and Greg Gaines shared the same number of snaps as they kept Vea fresh coming back from injury while Logan Hall wasn’t far behind either. While Shaq Barrett was second amongst the outside linebackers, Anthony Nelson significantly outsnapped Joe Tryon-Shoyinka 47% to 30%. It’s evident that the Bucs are moving forward with JTS as a backup. Slowly but surely, Todd Bowles is making personnel adjustments, whether that was limiting the amount of playing time for Ryan Neal when healthy, playing Diaby over JTS or the newest installment, Britt over Devin White. We’ve all asked for more playing time for outside linebacker Markees Watts. He didn’t help his case by going offsides as he played 10% of the snaps.
