Bucs vs. Eagles Thursday Injury Report: 2 Extremely Important Starters Out

The Bucs had a bonus practice day on Wednesday because of their playoff game on Monday night, so Thursday was the first day this week that we all got an injury report. Practice was a walkthrough, which has been customary for the Bucs in the later half of the season, so there wasn’t as much information to gather. It wasn’t until the injury report came out that we could put together the pieces, starting with Baker Mayfield. Much like the Bucs went about it last week, Mayfield would not have participated if the Bucs were a full go. This week, Mayfield has the rib injury to deal with and ankle injury on top of it. ImageBucs QB Baker Mayfield – Photo by: USA Today “He would not have practiced today,” head coach Todd Bowles said.  “Hopefully we’ll see him tomorrow.” Bowles then discussed how much the game plan would have to adjust because of Mayfield’s issues. “It’s a fine line,” Bowles said. “I don’t think it affects Dave [Canales] as far as calling the game. I think Thad [Lewis] does a very good job making sure he gets the plays he needs to get for us to win, as opposed to calling plays just to protect him. We’re trying to win the ballgame is the No. 1 thing, and Baker will tell you that. When he’s out there, I don’t think it affects him.” The other concern for Bucs fans would have to be left tackle Tristan Wirfs. He did not practice with an illness. Bowles admitted last week that he himself had a cold, so maybe Wirfs caught it. Wirfs also didn’t practice early last week because of a shoulder injury, so he is another benefitting from an extra day before the game. Rounding out the list of players that did not participate was inside linebacker K.J. Britt, who missed last week’s game. Some good news was that special teamer and defensive back Josh Hayes was limited in practice with his quad/knee injury while Mike Greene (calf) practiced in full as he’s still in the 21-day window to be activated. #Bucs had a walkthrough day. Baker was out there, as was K.J. Britt.
