Bucs QB Baker Mayfield – Photo by: USA Today Chris Godwin headlined Pewter Report’s Most Impressive column this week, and for good reason. He was involved heavily and had quite a few big catches. When he gets going, it’s hard to contain both him and Mike Evans. Bucs head coach Todd Bowles shared his initial thoughts on how Godwin played. “Big game for him,” Bowles said. “I told you when Chris and Mike get off at the same time, we’re a very dangerous team.” The offense looked dangerous on Sunday moving the ball, and it truly looked like Baker Mayfield woke up feeling that way. In Mayfield’s eyes, Godwin was “balling.” “Guy is just so consistent, man,” Mayfield said. “Can’t say enough about him. A true stud, a true professional. Has never complained, has never done any of that. He’s just done everything he needs to do and today he was balling. Just some clutch catches, that’s for sure. Didn’t get in the end zone, but was definitely the guy to keep the chains moving consistently today and set up everybody else so couldn’t be happier for Chris.” No, Chris Godwin did not find the end zone on Sunday, and still has just one touchdown catch on the season. But it was his ability to get open downfield that set the Bucs up to reach pay dirt. When functioning within the offense properly, he truly aids Tampa Bay’s offense. “CG – hell of a player, hell of a guy,” right tackle Luke Goedeke said. “Just always working his tail off, had an incredible game today. He’s really an asset for our offense.” Chris Godwin Feels “Really Good” About His Performance 
Bucs WR Chris Godwin – Photo by: USA Today Not only do other Bucs players and coaches feel good and encouraged by Chris Godwin’s efforts, Godwin himself does as well. “It feels really good, Godwin said. “It feels good to have a big game I think mostly because like, I understand what it means for the team.” This should feel good for Chris Godwin as it also quiets a lot of noise about his lack of production on offense. After his wife recently called out head coach Todd Bowles and the issue entered the public sphere, Godwin has handled it like a pro. Big games like the one he had also make it a lot easier for offensive coordinator Dave Canales to call plays when guys are getting separation against defensive backs and getting downfield. Godwin helped lead the passing attack and also made the Packers’ secondary look historically bad. Today, the Packers put together one of the worst pass coverage performances in recent NFL history, by any team. A third straight win has drastically changed the trajectory of the Bucs’ season and gives guys performances to build off, especially on offense. After once being a mark that was hard to reach, Tampa Bay has scored 20 or more points in six of their last seven games. Who knows? Being able to beat the Packers in the frozen tundra made it that much better. “A big game like this, coming to a great environment, playing at Lambeau is pretty damn cool,” Godwin added. “To be able to come here and put up a big game helps set some other guys up as well.
