Al Michaels’ NFL days are over, end of an era

The 79-year-old Al Michaels and NBC have parted ways after the network decided not to renew Michaels’ contract. Michaels was with ABC for three decades, where he worked at Monday Night Football as a play-by-play guy for twenty of those years. He had been with NBC doing Sunday Night Football for 16 years. Michaels was replaced by Mike Tirico last season. He had been given an emeritus title and was still contributing to playoff coverage. Last season, Michaels and Tony Dungy were calling the big Jaguar comeback over the Chargers in the playoffs. The two were criticized for not having any energy in the broadcast of the exciting comeback win. If you want excitement, you don’t place Dungy in the booth from the get-go. Dungy and a 79-year-old play-by-play guy will get you shuffleboard court-type energy and excitement. What did they really expect they would get? Dungy is notorious for his lack of emotion on the sidelines when he coached. Michaels was upset last month when he was asked about NBC and their reservations over his playoff coverage. “It’s in my deal. Where are you hearing that from? It’s in my deal!” — Michaels replied. Now, you know the rest of the story. Good day! Go Bucs!! The post Al Michaels’ NFL days are over, end of an era appeared first on Bucs Life.
