Bucs Waive Running Back

The Bucs waived running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn, a third-round pick, on Friday afternoon. The move itself does not come as a surprise as Vaughn has spent most of the season as the team’s third-string running back and has largely underwhelmed since arriving in Tampa Bay via the 2021 NFL Draft. With defensive tackle Vita Vea listed as a game-time decision due to a toe injury that kept him out of last week’s 29-25 win over the Falcons, the Bucs needed to clear a roster spot for practice squad defensive tackle Deadrin Senat, although the team has not announced a corresponding move. Vaughn, a seldom-used backup running back, was essentially the 53rd man on the roster. Tampa Bay has already elevated Senat from the practice squad three times this year, so in order for him to play on Sunday if needed in Green Bay Senat would have to be signed to the Bucs’ 53-man roster. He has appeared in 43 games for the Bucs, with one start, which came in the 2021 playoffs against Philadelphia, and has carried the ball 103 times for 384 yards and scored two touchdowns. Vaughn also has 14 receptions for 81 yards and one touchdown in his four-year NFL career. This year, Vaughn has seen action in just six games and has 24 carries for 42 yards with two receptions for two yards. He has been inactive for the past five weeks with the return of veteran running back Chase Edmonds to action. Undrafted rookie Sean Tucker has been the third-string runner behind Edmonds and starter Rachaad White. There is a chance that the Bucs sign Vaughn to the practice squad as he knows Tampa Bay’s system and could have some value if there is an injury to one of the backs in the Bucs’ stable.
