Bills News: Stefon Diggs to the Texans is a calculated risk that might work brilliantly

On its face, the Houston Texans’ trade for former Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs flips them from contenders to Super Bowl hopefuls. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud was amazing with a gifted but injury-plagued receiver group already in 2023, and with Diggs joining Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Robert Woods, and tight end Dalton Schultz, that passing game would seem to be all-in for right now. The Bills were more than eager to move on from Diggs; they’re carrying a massive $31.1 million dead cap charge so that he can NOT play for them in 2024. That has as much to do with Diggs’ mercurial personality as anything he did or didn’t do on the field, and maybe Stroud and head coach DeMeco Ryans can keep that in line. Buffalo’s offense was frustrating at best in 2023, so perhaps that was the crux of the biscuit. So, what do the Texans get in Diggs? Last season, he caught 117 passes on 175 targets for 1,256 yards and eight touchdowns. That was actually his least productive season since 2019, his last season with the Minnesota Vikings before a trade took him to Buffalo. Diggs is a volume receiver who can win to all levels of the field in an ideal sense, but what does the tape show?
