Sports Info Solutions is a sports data company that is responsible (directly or indirectly) for a lot of the graphs and charts that people see floating around regarding performance in the NFL. Looking at things a bit more analytically than most, they just released their All-Rookie teams The teams were selected using a combination of advanced stats and voting among members of our football operations staff, with emphasis placed upon SIS’ player value stat, Total Points. Darnell Wright, 1st-Team Offense (Right Tackle) For those who have been following his tape, it should come as no surprise that Darnell Wright out of Tennessee was named as the 1st-Team Right Tackle. He was solid all year long despite facing some fierce opposition. Their explanation of his performance: Darnell Wright started every game and logged over 1,000 snaps for the Bears this season. While he did have 31 Blown Blocks in the pass game, which comes with the territory of a young NFL tackle, he notched a miniscule 0.9% Blown Block rate on run plays, tied for 5th-best among all tackles with at least 500 snaps. Emphasis added, because that’s some impressive work from a rookie. It’s worth noting that he had fewer blown pass blocks than their selection at left tackle, Anton Harrison, who came in with 40. On a whole, he earned 31 points of value in their metrics, placing him as the fifth-highest player on the 1st-team offense. Among rookie offensive linemen, only O’Cyrus Torrence of the Buffalo Bills placed ahead of him. Tyrique Stevenson, 2nd-Team Defense (Cornerback) The 2nd-round corner was an impactful player, and he was only beaten out because of the quality of his opposition. Devon Witherspoon of the Seattle Seahawks and Joey Porter of the Pittsburgh Steelers were ahead of him, but he led all defenders on the 2nd-team with total points (38), only missing the 1st-Team spot as defensive back given to Deonte Banks (39) by the slimmest of margins.
