He takes the spot that was vacated when the Bears placed defensive end Yannick Ngakoue on injured reserve earlier this week. Gates has spent most of this season on the practice squad, but he has appeared in three games this year for the Bears with all 49 of his snaps on special teams, and he has one tackle and a fumble recovery. The (5-8) Bears will play the (8-5) Cleveland Browns at noon (CT) on Sunday with each squad’s inactive list due 90 minutes before kickoff.
