Bears News; First impressions from Bears OTAs: Rough day for Caleb Williams, offense

The Chicago Bears conducted their third voluntary practice of organized team activities on Thursday, which was open to the media. As expected, the defense certainly appears to be ahead of the offense at this point of the offseason. Which makes sense considering they’re in the third year of Matt Eberflus’ defense while the offense is still learning Shane Waldron’s new scheme.“The first day. The offense really got after us,” veteran safety Kevin Byard said. “He made some good throws. Some deep passes. [Caleb Williams] had a really good day. Today, we got after him.”It’s far too early to start overreacting to unpadded practices in May, especially with the offense down two starting wide receivers in Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze and two starting offensive linemen in Darnell Wright and Nate Davis. According to the media in attendance, that equated to a lot of incomplete passes and red-zone inefficiency during team drills. But it sounds like a nice start for Eberflus’ defense, which is looking to build off their dominance in the final stretch of the 2023 season. Here are the first impressions from Bears OTAs following Thursday’s practice, observed by the media:
