Hewlett: Caleb is the best I’ve ever coached at making difficult throws

Image Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images Caleb Williams’ private QB coach, Will Hewlett, joins the Bears Banter Podcast! The second part of the Bears Banter Double Episode has dropped! If you missed part one, make sure you check that one here. It features an interview with Ty Dunne who did an in-depth dive on the past issues the Chicago Bears have had developing quarterbacks (Trubisky/Fields) and why it should be different this time. Part two features an interview with Will Hewlett, who has worked with Caleb Williams since middle school and has been his private quarterback coach this entire offseason! We know we hype up interviews, but this one really is a must-listen! Hewlett gives phenomenal insight into his coaching techniques, his relationship with Caleb, and what he sees in Caleb as a prospect both mentally and physically. Hewlett is quite impressed with Williams’ physical gifts. “The unique thing about Caleb is, if you present him with a scenario that’s going to produce some kind of difficult throw, he is always able to find a way to make that throw,” Hewlett stated. “I’ve never worked with someone that’s able to get the ball from awkward situations, on time, with velocity than anyone before. Those are the things we see on the field that obviously, the plays you see on Saturdays that now you’re going to see on Sundays, but in training, it was very clear that these things are real and they’re reproducible and he’s able to have control of his body in certain situations that I haven’t seen before. There’s very few guys that have that level of fluidity and control and awareness and he’s one of those guys and that’s why he’s one of the best prospects of all-time.” That quote is just the tip of the iceberg.
