Bears News; Bears trade up from No. 9 to land playmaking WR in Dane Brugler mock draft

The Chicago Bears have a decision to make with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Will they use it on a quarterback? Are there other plans in place? All of these things have to be decided soon.  That first overall pick of theirs originally belonged to the Carolina Panthers. It was a trade involving last year’s number-one pick that allowed Chicago to have Carolina’s pick this year. They just happened to be the worst team in the league.  The Bears acquired the first overall selection from the Carolina Panthers in a trade of last year’s top pick. Chicago’s own draft pick landed at No. 9 following their 7-10 season. There are some very interesting options for them to consider with this selection. One writer seems to think they have what it takes to move up from nine.  The Athletic’s Dane Brugler put out a mock draft that may surprise some folks. He did have the Bears drafting Caleb Williams at No. 1, but it’s what he has them doing with No. 9 that is intriguing.  Brugler has Chicago trading the ninth pick (along with No. 75 and a 2025 fourth-rounder) to the Los Angeles Chargers for No. 5. That’s a good price for them if Poles identify someone worthy of moving up for. Brugler has them selecting Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze with the fifth overall pick after making that trade with the Chargers. They add a very good playmaking wideout to put opposite DJ Moore. This would be a very smart move for Ryan Poles and his staff. Williams (or Justin Fields) needs help in terms of weapons and Odunze is someone who will help him. Having multiple top receivers is important, and Odunze would have a chance to be something special in Chicago.
