NFL free agency rolls on with Day 3, the official start of the new league year. To celebrate, the Bears made multiple moves to shore up their depth on both offense and defense. On Wednesday, Chicago signed offensive lineman Matt Pryor, quarterback Brett Rypien, and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga to one-year deals. These deals, as well as the other prior agreements, became official during the afternoon. Pryor will serve as depth at the tackle position, playing behind Darnell Wright and Braxton Jones, while Rypien is the team’s veteran backup quarterback and presumably will hold the role Nathan Peterman occupied over the last two years. Finally, Ogbongbemiga should play a role on special teams as a reserve linebacker. These moves aren’t the splashiest, but they’re important for building a complete team that’s prepared to compete in the fall. Here are our initial grades for each deal.
