Former Arizona guard Courtney Blakely returns to Middle Tennessee State

Image Photo by Joe Buglewicz/Getty Images Middle Tennessee State was not happy when Courtney Blakely left for Arizona last season. She was held out of two exhibitions and four regular season games for the Wildcats as the NCAA investigated her transfer. She was cleared by the NCAA just before UA went to the Bahamas. Apparently, the Blue Raiders got over it because the guard is transferring back after one year in the desert. Blakely made 10 starts for MTSU as a sophomore before going into the portal. Arizona head coach Adia Barnes said that the transfers she brought in last year were meant to play supporting roles while the highly-ranked freshman class received most of the playing time. That was how it played out for Blakely, who played about seven minutes per game fewer at Arizona than she did the year before at MTSU. Her overall scoring decreased, but she had the best 3-point and free-throw shooting percentages of her career as a Wildcat. Blakely averaged 4.8 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 17.2 minutes per game in 2023-24. On a per-40-minute basis, she averaged 11.2 points, down just a touch from the 11.4 she averaged as a sophomore. Her assists per 40 minutes dropped but so did her turnovers. Her 2.6 steals per 40 minutes were just slightly under the career high of 2.7 she had as a freshman.
