Jordan Poole’s addition was exciting to some, as he had the potential to average over 30 points per game. Needless to say, that hasn’t been the case at all this season, and he’s not giving them anything on the defensive end of the floor, either. The Wizards’ defense has been questionable, to say the least, and team star Kyle Kuzma is showing his frustration. He recently stated that they cannot guard a stop sign (via Legion Hoops), and he might be on point. They’re allowing the most points per game in the league (124.8 PPG), all while posting the worst defensive rating (120.6). The Wizards also have the third-worst net rating (-8.2), meaning they’re taking a bunch of shots per game but aren’t making many of those, all while allowing even more shots on the other end of the floor. That’s not the formula for winning basketball, and while they do have some good defenders like Daniel Gafford, Bilal Coulibaly, and even Kuzma, it takes a lot of coaching to turn things around. They’re allowing their rivals to shoot 50.3% from the floor (a league-worst), 58.3% from two-point range (also a league-worst), and rank dead-last in defensive rebounds as well. There’s still plenty of basketball to be played this season, but this team might not win more than 15 games all year long if they keep this terrible defensive effort up.
